Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen release Schubert: Symphonies Nos 5 & 6, the second volume in their ongoing complete Schubert symphony cycle.

The project has already drawn strong critical attention: Volume 1 was selected as an Editor’s Choice in Gramophone, which praised Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen for bringing “their wonderfully collegial rapport and virtuosity to bear in a beautiful Schubert recording.”

Volume 2 features two symphonies composed in 1817–18, when Franz Schubert was still in his early twenties, and continues the cycle’s exploration of contrast between Classical clarity and emerging Romantic expression.

Coinciding with the release, Järvi and DKAM tour a programme pairing Schubert with Mozart and Mendelssohn, with performances in Bremen, the Heidelberg Spring Festival, Vienna Musikverein, Valencia’s Palau de la Música, Teatro Municipale Valli in Reggio Emilia, and Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie (16–25 April).
