The BBC has announced that Paavo Järvi will conduct the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Prom at the Royal Albert Hall on 9 September, replacing Esa-Pekka Salonen who is unable to travel to London.
The programme, which will be live streamed on both BBC Radio 3 and the BBC iPlayer, features Shostakovich’s First Piano Concerto with soloist Benjamin Grosvenor, bookended by Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin and Mozart’s Symphony No.41. Watch on the BBC iPlayer at 7.30 p.m. GMT.
Paavo Järvi is a regular guest of the Philharmonia Orchestra and their most recent collaboration was just last week at the Battersea Arts Centre, for a filmed performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 and Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending with soloist Nicola Benedetti, for broadcast on September 17 as a part of the ‘Philharmonia Sessions‘.
