Discover Carl Nielsen with Paavo Järvi and Andrew Mellor
“It might be Scandinavian, but his music is altogether hotter, more volatile and certainly more of a rollercoaster ride.”
The Philharmonia Orchestra has produced a fascinating insight into Carl Nielsen’s music, presented by Gramophone writer Andrew Mellor, in conversation with conductor Paavo Järvi. Järvi will be conducting two concerts of Nielsen’s music at the Royal Festival Hall in London’s Southbank Centre in the near future. On November 10 he and the Philharmonia will perform Symphony No 2, The Four Temperaments, alongside Brahms’s Violin Concerto (with soloist Leonidas Kavakos) and Haydn’s Symphony No 102, and a concert on February 2 includes Symphony No 6, Sinfonia semplice, with Haydn Symphony 101 and Beethoven’s Triple Concerto.
